Fae Almira Paul Burke, 92 of Springfield, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at her home at Greenspring Village. She was born April 7, 1917 in Johnstown, PA to the late Elwood Keeler and Malvina Overdorf Paul. She was the widow of Gerald David Burke to whom she was married to for 52 years. She was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Art Education and taught in the Cambria County Pennsylvania school system. Shortly after moving to Springfield in 1952 she and her husband were instrumental in the formation of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and served in many leadership roles over the years including Superintendant of Sunday Schools and President of LCW. As an early resident of Springfield she and her husband also served in PTA leadership roles in Lynbrook Elementary, Garfield Elementary and Robert E. Lee High Schools. In addition to volunteering at the local schools, she volunteered her time at the National Lutheran Home. She enjoyed playing golf at Springfield Country Club, where she was active in the women's golf association. Survivors include her children, Barbara Hartigan and husband Steve, Sandy England and husband Kevin, Jeffrey and wife Robin; grandchildren, Kristin Quarton an her husband Rick, Jeffrey Burke, John Burke and Connor England; great grandson, Jack Quarton; brother, Elwood K. Paul; brother-in-law Jack Burke; and many nieces and nephews. The family expresses its deep appreciation for all who provided wonderful care to Fae. Friends will be received at Jefferson Funeral Chapel 5755 Castlewellan Dr. Alexandria, VA 22315 Friday from 3-7pm. A memorial service will be held 11:30am Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. A private graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church , 5800 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22150-3299, or a charity of your choice.
